The luxury of patina.
The beauty of fine furnishings is that they age well. Allow for a bit of wear when your furniture and accessories are your favorite pieces. Think of yourself as a curator for your home, choose items that make your heart sing, and then don’t worry about a few imperfections. Things to hunt for: leather chairs, wool rugs, vintage tables. At Foryu Furnishings we have a huge selection to help you find the “luxury of patina”.
Twins!
Bold is better.
When it comes to accessorizing your rooms, think big and bold. A few strong pieces are better than lots of little knick-knacks. Larger pieces catch the eye, and upgrade your furniture.
Scale does not have to be “proper”, even in small spaces. Try an over-sized vase or bowl on your dining table. Larger accessories help define space and offer your eye a calm “landing space”. Think bold.
Simplify, simplify, simplify.
Don’t be afraid to create spaces that are almost stark in their simplicity. A “blank canvas” can inform your furnishing choices, and living with less helps to clarify what you really want to see in your rooms.
Bring your extra furnishings to us at Foryu as a great way to recycle and pass your items on to a new home – consigning is a win/win way to move forward!
Three pieces often gives a sense of balance in your arrangements. Easy does it – resist the temptation to add, even when you find something charming, you might be better off leaving some breathing room.
When in doubt, leave it out.
“Before and after” fun.
This room felt congested, over-furnished, and lacked flow. By editing a few pieces, and angling the seating arrangement, we made this room into an inviting sitting/entertaining space. Hiromi’s sitting room “before”:
By moving the sofa away from the sliding door, we brought in more light and function to this room, now it’s easy to make indoor/outdoor living happen.
A clever use of space behind an angled piece of furniture is to use a sofa height table for display. You can’t see it, but it’s perfect for vase, flowers, etc.
By de-cluttering your space, you can actually create a cozier feel. Make bold moves when editing your room, so that you can sense the actual flow and use of the room. Hiromi’s sitting room “after”: (courtesy of room stylist Hilary Bailey Burnett)
